FAQ

Questions about StoreFlow Variant Discovery

Practical answers about setup, storefront behavior, compatibility, and billing.

What does StoreFlow Variant Discovery change?+

It changes how supported product options are presented on the storefront. It can display options as image swatches, color swatches, text buttons, or dropdowns.

Does it modify my Shopify products or variants?+

It does not change variant titles, SKUs, inventory, or Shopify Admin prices. Storefront selections are synchronized with the theme’s native variant controls.

Does StoreFlow Variant Discovery work with every Shopify theme?+

No universal theme compatibility is guaranteed. StoreFlow Variant Discovery has been validated with supported Dawn and Horizon structures for standard Product Pages, initial Collection Product Grids, and standard Featured collection sections. Compatibility varies by theme version, custom theme code, third-party apps, modified product-card structures, and unsupported or custom sections.

Does it work with custom themes?+

It may work when a custom theme follows compatible Shopify structures, but custom-theme compatibility is not guaranteed. Test on an unpublished theme before publishing whenever practical.

Do I need to edit theme code?+

No manual theme-code editing is required for the standard supported setup. You must enable the Theme App Embed in the Shopify theme editor.

What is the difference between Built-in and Custom Themes?+

Built-in Themes are read-only presets. Customizing a preset creates an independent Custom Theme and does not change the original.

How many Custom Themes can I create?+

You can maintain up to eight Custom Themes per store.

What happens when I apply a new theme to the same Product or Collection?+

Each target can have one directly applied theme. After confirmation, applying a new theme transfers that target from the previous theme to the new one.

Which setting takes priority?+

On an actual Collection page, the priority is Product → Collection → Global. In a Featured collection section, the priority is Product → Global. If no App setting applies, the Shopify theme’s native presentation remains.

Does a Featured collection section inherit its Collection-specific Theme?+

No. Collection-specific settings apply only while shoppers are viewing the selected Collection page. A Featured collection section uses Product settings first, then the Global setting; it does not automatically inherit the Collection-specific Theme for the Collection it displays.

Where is Product Card presentation supported?+

Compatible product cards are supported in initial Dawn or Horizon Collection Product Grids and supported standard Dawn or Horizon Featured collection sections. Other unvalidated product-card surfaces, such as recommended products, search results, dynamically inserted grids, or custom theme sections, may retain the theme’s native presentation.

Where do Image Swatch images come from?+

StoreFlow Variant Discovery uses reliable image data already available from your Shopify product variants or supported theme markup. It does not upload or manage product images. For best results, make sure the relevant variant values have complete and distinct images in Shopify.

How does Image Swatch fallback work?+

Image presentation requires complete, reliable, non-duplicated images for the relevant values. If those requirements are not met, Auto falls back to another supported mode.

How do I set up Color Swatches?+

Open the product in Shopify Admin and configure swatches for the values under your Color or Colour option, such as Red, Black, or Light Blue. StoreFlow Variant Discovery uses the swatch data provided by Shopify. Auto recognizes Color or Colour option names regardless of capitalization.

Which option names are automatically recognized as colors?+

Auto color detection recognizes Color or Colour, regardless of capitalization.

What happens if a page structure is unsupported?+

Unsupported or unconfirmed structures retain the theme’s native presentation whenever possible. StoreFlow Variant Discovery is designed to avoid replacing native purchasing controls when a supported presentation cannot be applied safely.

Should I test StoreFlow Variant Discovery before publishing?+

Yes. Test on an unpublished theme before enabling StoreFlow Variant Discovery on your published storefront whenever practical. Re-test after theme updates, theme replacement, significant customization, or changes to variant-related apps.

What should I do if StoreFlow Variant Discovery does not work correctly with my theme?+

Turn off the StoreFlow Variant Discovery App Embed in Shopify’s Theme Editor and save. StoreFlow Variant Discovery controls will stop loading. Verify that your theme’s native variant and purchasing controls work correctly before publishing.

Does StoreFlow Variant Discovery replace Shopify checkout or native purchasing controls?+

No. StoreFlow Variant Discovery synchronizes variant selections with the theme’s native controls. Your Shopify theme continues to manage product forms, native Quick Add or Choose options, Add to cart, cart, and checkout.

What happens when I uninstall the App?+

Disable the Theme App Embed before uninstalling and verify your storefront. After uninstalling, App controls should stop loading and the theme’s native controls should remain.

How does the 7-day free trial work?+

The trial and subscription are presented and approved through Shopify billing. The current plan is $3.99 USD per month after the trial.
